Biography

Buford Waymon Lance, 79, of East Moline, a former resident of McMinnville,Tenn., died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Mr. Lance was cremated, and inurnment of his remains will be 2 p.m. Friday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Schroder Mortuary in Silvis is assisting the family with arrangements.

Buford was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Centertown, Tenn.

He retired from the United States Air Force in 1969 after 22 years of service. He later retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1972. He was married to Sandra Wilcox Van Tine on Feb. 14, 1972; she survives.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lance is survived by a daughter, Lori Harris, Edgington; one granddaughter, Aly Neff, Edgington; one brother, Lonnie (Debbie) Lance, Sikeston, Mo.; two sisters, Lucille (R.D.) Crim, Olivet, Mont., and Faye (Sherman) Mays, Manchester, Tenn.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Lance was preceded in death by his parents, Hebron and Ruth Simons Lance. He also was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister; Marshall Lance, Clyde Lance, Thomas Melvin Lance and Nadean Cummings.
