Biography

Martha Mathias, 83, of East Moline, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hope Creek Care Center. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.

Martha was born July 13, 1926 in Martinsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip Eli and Opal Hefner Messerschmit. She married Paul "Doggie" Eugene Mathias March 29, 1942. He passed away in January 1995.

She enjoyed fishing, traveling, bowling, bingo, golfing, aerobics, garage saling, walking by the river and going to the casino. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and bragging about her grandkids.

Survivors include sons, Larry of Terre Haute, Ind., Phil (Diane) of Greenfield, Ind., Jack (Loretta) of Westminster, S.C., Wayne (Maria) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Robert of Silvis; daughters, Janet Mathias of Moline and Cheryl Fletcher of East Moline; special son, Wayne Stanlake; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Maude Chrisman of Ottumwa, Iowa.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Hope Creek and Hospice Compassus for their wonderful care.
