Lyle Hemphill, 85, of Colona, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
He was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Esterville, Iowa, to Lysle Hemphill and Elizabeth Reineman.
He graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, class of 1942. He married Elizabeth "Mickey" Foster of Galt, Mo., on Nov. 14, 1944. They were married for 53 years. After retirement from J.I. Case, Bettendorf, as a precision tool grinder and Illini Beef, Joslin, in maintenance, they enjoyed travel, fishing and family gatherings.
Lyle is survived by his children, Bill Hemphill, Warren Lake, Ill., Bob Hemphill, Collins, Iowa, Barry Hemphill, Colona, Sandy (John) Draper, Spring Hill, Fla., Kathy Stout, Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Sharon Hemphill, Moline; brothers, Bob (Betty) Hemphill, Marcell, Minn., Donald (Shirley) Hemphill, Nokomis, Fla., and David (Linda) Hemphill, Colona; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey; and son, Terry Hemphill.
