Andrew Ortiz

Andrew C. “Mexi” Ortiz, 35, of Silvis passed away December 1, 2019 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus.

A mass of Christian burial is 10am Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7pm with a rosary at 3:30pm Wednesday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family.

Andrew was born June 10, 1984 in Moline, IL the son of Andrew W. and Janet Casillas Ortiz. He formerly worked at Anchor Lumber in Silvis and Subway in East Moline. He enjoyed playing the drums and punk rock music, metal detecting, fixing broken items, and spicy food. He especially loved spending time with his children.

Survivors include his parents Andy (Jann) Ortiz; children Tyler Whipple of Colona, Alona Kay Joyce Ortiz of Silvis; step son Julian West of Silvis; siblings Jennifer (Paul) Colbrese of Little York, IL, Jack J. (Jessica) Ortiz of Silvis, Anne M. Ortiz of Chicago, and Jill M. (Mitchell) Griffin of Colona; wife Sonya Ortiz of Coal Valley and special friends Stephanie Gomez and Kyle Yeager.

Andrew was preceded in death by his grandparents Elias (Anna) Casillas and Manuel (Jennie) Ortiz.
