Berniece J. Ostrom, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 89, of Silvis, died Jan. 9, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, where she was a member. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial is at Roselawn Cemetery, Moline.
She was born June 19, 1922, in Silvis, daughter of James Patrick and Loretta Ann Doyle Hughes. She married George N. Ostrom, April 19, 1941, in East Moline. He died July 20, 1993.
She was the secretary of Silvis Heights Water Corp., for 40 years and also kept the books for her husband's business. She also worked as a comptometer operator at McKesson and Robbins in Rock Island for 10 years.
She was a member of the Illini Auxiliary, Claire Lodge Vikings, Ladies Auxiliary at church and the Class of 1940 reunion committee.
Survivors include her children, Lonnie (Martha) Ostrom, Phoenix, Ariz., Ronnie Ostrom, Fairfax, Va., Donnie (Kay) Ostrom, Mascoutah, Ill., Bonnie (Randy Parker) Rives, Moline, Monnie (Teresa Lentz) Ostrom, Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Amy (Troy) Buchanan, Jennifer (Keith) Kraver, Ryan Ostrom, Nels (Jennifer) Ostrom, Kyle (Felicia) Ostrom, Julie (Eric Cord) Ostrom, Erica (Kevin) Rives Kautz, Lindsey (Kristofer Loff) Rives, Justin (Nicole Jacobs) Ostrom and Brooke (Jason) Madson; great-grandchildren, Ella Ruth Kraver, Brody Buchanan, Bennett Kraver, George Ostrom and Marian Ostrom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; brothers and sisters, Frank and Tom Hughes, Gladys Hudson and Loretta Williams; and a special friend, Earl Arnold.
