Bessie Violet "Vi" Kellums, 85, of Peoria, Ill., died Friday afternoon, Dec. 10, 2010, at OSF St Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, with funeral service to follow. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, immediately following service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Friends of the Children of Haiti, PO Box 789, Peoria, IL 61652
She was born Aug. 16, 1925, in East Moline, to Adam and Myrtle DeMont. Vi was married on March 20, 1945, to William H. Kellums in Tucson, Ariz. He died in 1956.
Violet was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Allen Kellums; her brothers, Ray, Roy, George and Walter DeMont; and her sisters, Ann Stanley and Dolly Kay.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and John "Corkey" Gray, Peoria; grandchildren, Piper and Chris Garwacki, Charlotte, N.C., Stephanie Schmidgall, Morton, Ill., and Todd and Jenelle Gray, Dunlap, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Hazel Garwacki, Kennedy Schmidgall and Makenzie, Mallorie, Macie and Mitchel Gray; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Rosalie DeMont; her longtime friend, John Collins, Silvis, and Don and Paula Goering, Hampton; many nieces and nephews.
