Bill Stohl

June 30, 1922 — February 19, 2013

William "Bill" Stohl, 90, of Silvis, formerly of Cleveland, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Colona. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Schroder Mortuary in Colona, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Dayton Corners Cemetery in Colona. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice. Bill was born June 30, 1922, in Cleveland, the son of John and Mary Newberry Stohl. He married Anne Westerlund May 26, 1951, in Colona. She passed away Jan. 26, 1986. He later married Mabel Murphy April 29, 1989, in Colona. Bill served in the Coast Guard during World War II and was a Golden Gloves boxer. He participated in the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities in September 2012. Bill was a member of the Lions Club and a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he also was a member of the Franciscan Order. He also was actively involved with the pro-life movement. Bill farmed and was the owner of Bill Stohl and Sons Plastering for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Stohl; children, Annette (Brad) Williams, Jeff Stohl, Greg (Donna) Stohl, Charlie (Lori) Stohl, Tim (Annette) Stohl, Mitch (Inge) Stohl, Mary Slaughter, Chris (Nancy) Stohl, Ben (Donna) Stohl, Teresa (Ron) Miller, Laura Garwood, Pat (Sheri) Stohl, Brad (Sara) Stohl and Sarah (Dave) Blader; stepson, Robert Lantz; 32 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Helen) Stohl; and a sister, Teresa (Bob) Coopman. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; siblings, John Stohl, Rosemary Bybee and Viola Peterson; and a great-granddaughter, Annaliese Ruiz.
