Silvis

Bonnie Jean Thomas, 92, of Silvis, IL, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2024 at Silver Cross in Rock Island. Bonnie was born on July 21, 1931, to Fred and Hattie Tessman of East Moline.

Bonnie was a 1949 graduate of United Township High School. She was involved in many activities, with being a drummer in marching band as her favorite. During high school, Bonnie formed a close relationship with a group of girls who would later become lifelong friends that continued to meet monthly for the duration of their lives. After graduation, Bonnie went on to become a medical transcriptionist working at Moline Public Hospital followed by Lutheran Hospital.

On August 7, 1951, Bonnie married Richard M. Thomas in East Moline, IL. They went on to have a beautiful, loving marriage for over 72 years. Richard was a dedicated husband who lovingly cared for Bonnie during her 50-year battle with multiple sclerosis. Facing this challenge, Bonnie fought with amazing and quiet strength; she never complained and always maintained her sweet and loving spirit.

Bonnie lived in Silvis, in a home that her father, Fred, and her husband, Richard, built for their family. In that home, Bonnie and Richard raised their four children and resided for 65 years prior to moving to Friendship Manor in Rock Island, IL.

Some of Bonnie's favorite activities were spending time with her family, camping, and traveling all over the United States, reading and crafting, and visiting the ocean.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Richard, and their four children: Daniel (Carol) Thomas, Christine (Duane) Kiddoo, Rebecca (Bruce) Vyncke, and Tamara (Brian) Nelson. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Gabe) Alderette, Matthew (Lisa) Maxwell, Dale Thomas, Andrea (Brian) Fisher, Linda (Michael) Hillbloom, Eric (Ana) Vyncke, Amie (Mooch) King, Lisa (Cory) Wildermuth, and 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren with a third expected this spring. Bonnie is also survived by a special nephew, Earl R. Kyle III.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and brother-in-law. Per her wishes, there will not be any funeral or visitation services. A private family celebration of life will be held later this spring. Bonnie's family would like to thank Schroder Mortuary for their assistance during this time. Memorials may be sent to Inspire Continuing Care located in Geneseo, IL.

Bonnie's family was truly blessed to have had her in their lives for so many years. Her kind, sweet, loving spirit will be deeply missed. She was the strongest woman the family has ever known.
