Dean M. Schulte, 85, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 20, 1940, in Ashland, Ohio, to the late Martha and Clarence Schulte, Dean grew up in a family that instilled in him enduring values of hard work, loyalty, and service to others. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine, earning an honorable discharge. The discipline, focus, and sense of duty he gained during his time in the Corps shaped him throughout his life.

Dean enjoyed a distinguished 30 plus year career as a merchandise buyer for Montgomery Ward, where his sharp analytical skills, keen eye for quality and data, and ability to spot emerging trends played a key role in the company’s success.

He is survived by his sister Donna “Sis” (Duke) Barley of Mansfield, Ohio; his daughter Cynthia Ferrante of Arizona; his son James (Benita) Schulte of Port Byron, Illinois; his daughter DeAnn Snodgrass of Oswego, Illinois; six cherished grandchildren: Drake Wash-Prado, Jacob Schulte, Emily (Anthony) Witherspoon, Madeline Schulte, Madison (Brandon Holtam) Wash, and Lucas Snodgrass; three beloved great-grandchildren: Amelia, Charlotte, and Zachariah Witherspoon; his caring sister-in-law Janet Schulte; his lifelong friend Ron Plank; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn Schulte; his sister Carol Stitzel; and his brothers Merle Schulte and Earl Schulte.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their gentle care, comfort, and unwavering support during Dean’s final hours.

Dean’s chatty nature, unwavering focus, and profound love for his family will be remembered and cherished forever. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, dedication, and deep family roots.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dean’s memory to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
