Dorothy A. "Doti" Thompson

Dorothy A. “Doti” Thompson, 90, of Bettendorf passed away Friday, August 21, 2026 at Unity Point Trinity in Bettendorf.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no services. Schroder Mortuary in Silvis is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to The Catfish Jazz Society at PO Box 526 East Moline, IL. 61244

Dorothy was born December 30, 1935 in Bettendorf, IA the daughter of John and Evelyn Strieck Kapinski. She married Ken Thompson April 22, 1955 in Bettendorf. He passed away March 29, 2013. Dorothy and Ken owned Pleasant View Boarding Kennels. Dorothy and Ken were members of The Catfish Jazz Society where they attended many jazz festivals and made many friends along the way. They both enjoyed taking mystery bus trips with Tri State Bus Tours and had monthly lunches with a group of 20 members whom they became good friends with also called “the possum group” Dorothy and Ken spent over 40 years at their summer home on the river in Pleasant Valley.

Survivors include her daughters Lori McVey and Lisa (Steve) Diercks; grandchildren Angela (Carl Thompson) McVey and Jamie McVey, Justin (Kelly) Diercks, and Spencer (Danielle) Diercks; great grandchildren Zachary, Emilee, Keegan, Kayden, Kinsley, and Elena, 2 great great grandchildren, brother John (Peggy) Kapinski, sister in laws Judy St.Clair and Sharon Thompson, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother in laws Robert (Chrystal) Thompson, William Thompson, sister Betty (Robert) Malcom and nephew Kevin Kapinski.
