Dorothy B. Shew, 82, of Naples, Florida, formerly of East Moline, Illinois died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Tuscany Villa of Naples, Florida.
Visitation is Thursday, March 9th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 10th at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left, in her name, for Vitas Hospice, 4980 N. Tamiami Trail, Suite 102, Naples, FL 34103.
Dorothy was born January 29, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa a daughter of Clarence W. and Esther E. Witt Taylor. On August 22, 1953, she married Fred H. Shew in Silvis, Illinois. They were married until his death on March 22, 1989. Dorothy devoted her life to her family as a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, doing crafts and reading. Mrs. Shew was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, East Moline and had been a teacher's aide at Sycamore Christian School. After moving to Florida, she became a member of Berean Baptist Church, Naples.
She is survived by her children: Yvonne (Carl) Essary, Gardner, IL, Sheryl (Earl) Council, Naples, FL, Timothy (Peggy) Shew, Rock Island, IL and Michael (Sharon) Shew, Decatur, IL; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter and siblings: John (Patty) Taylor, Port Byron, IL, Donna (Bob) Mooney, Tennessee, Melanie (Harold) Horton, Arizona, Melvin (Virginia) Taylor, Moline, IL and Joan (George) Shafer, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Carol Shew, grandchildren: Kristina Brunat and Joseph Essary; daughter-in-law: Lori Shew and brothers: Richard and Robert Taylor.
