Edward Potter

Edward E. Potter, 70, of Silvis passed away Nov. 16, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus. Per his wishes he will be cremated. Schroder Mortuary in Silvis is assisting the family with arrangements. A celebration of Edward's life will be held 1:00 - 5:00pm Sat. - Nov. 21, 2015 at the Mississippi Valley Fair Grounds Keppy Hall in Davenport with a reception to follow. Edward was born Sept. 8, 1945 in Rock Island, IL the son of Robert and Betty (Hirl) Eng. He married Bonnie Sweat Feb. 28, 1964 in East Moline. Ed and Bonnie later divorced but remained lifelong friends and dedicated parents. Over the span of his life Ed worked at several Quad City Standard Stations and ultimately managed the Sherrard Standard location. Ed was a member of the Lions Club. He was an avid Bears fan. Ed enjoyed NASCAR and collecting and cataloging vinyl records which included an impressive Elvis representation. Ed was a crossword and jigsaw puzzle master, which followed in the footsteps of his mother Betty. Finally, Ed was a devoted member of the local racing community. He was a scorekeeper at several race tracks and wrote for a local racing magazine. His depth and breath of knowledge of racing and the local drivers was profound. Ed's biggest joy in life were his two daughters Lisa and Lorey and his grandchildren Ashton, Baily and Aaron-Michelle. Survivors include his daughters Lisa Potter of Silvis and Lorey Potter of Rock Island; grandchildren Ashton, Baily and Aaron-Michelle; brother Thomas (Shelli) Eng of Erie, IL; nieces Chris (Jeff) Aversing and Erica Eng; nephew Dale (Angie) Owen. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Owen.
