Ellen L. DeMink

Ellen L. DeMink, 84, of Moline passed away July 5, 2025 at Unity Point Rock Island.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Ellen was born April 21, 1941 in Kewanee, IL the daughter of Raymond and Katherine DeMink. She worked as a barber for over 50 years. She was one of the first woman barbers in the Quad Cities and was owner of Ellen’s Barber Shop in Moline, retiring in 2023. She also worked at the Quad City International Airport in Moline in the evenings.

Ellen enjoyed gardening and working outside in the yard and garage. She was artistic and over the years made crafts out of wood and painted them. You could always count on Ellen to tell it like it was, live in the moment, and have fun.

Survivors include her sisters Catherine Gosa of Rapids City, Maureen Johnston of Moline; brother Phillip (Christine) DeMink of Tipp City, OH; close family friends “daughters” Marla (Bryan) Zabel and Donna Nickell and several nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Danny DeMink, Raymond DeMink, sisters Evalena Handley and Anna Fanning, lifelong best friend Bonnie Nickell and furry friend Mattie.
