Eloise C. Ellis

Eloise “Elly” Ellis, 96, of Silvis passed away December 9, 2022 at Bickford Cottage in Moline.

A memorial service will be 11am Friday, December 16, 2022 at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Eloise Cora Appleby was born January 8, 1926 in Eldon, IA the daughter of Aaron “Jack” and Florence (Blaiceffer) Appleby. She graduated high school in Eldon, IA with the intention of applying for nursing school. Instead, she briefly attended Julliard School of Music. Elly worked for the FBI, finger printing division, in Washington DC before moving to Silvis and working in the office of Eagle Foods for many years. She loved racehorses and was an avid owner and trainer for many years. She helped open the doors at the Quad City Downs working as a par-mutual cashier until they closed.

Elly was feisty and full of life. She loved to vocally cheer on her Iowa Hawkeyes, Cubs, and Bears. She attended St. Anne’s Catholic Church in East Moline and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis.

Survivors include her children Bobby (Carolyn) Ellis of East Moline, Dianne (Ellis) Pastorek of Olathe, KS and Rollie Gene (Linda) Ellis of Missoula, MT. Elly was known as “Granny Goose” by her 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Elly was preceded in death by her parents.
