George Johnson

George E. Johnson, 85, of Colona, died March 27, 2014, at Aspen Health Care, Silvis. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona, with visitation two hours before the service. Burial is at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. He was born Jan. 10, 1929, in La Porte, Ind., son of Charles and Edna Dubbert Johnson. George served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Joyce Lee on July 17, 1954, in Hampton. She passed away in 2002. George worked for International Harvester in East Moline, retiring in 1978. He loved refinishing antique furniture and fixing antique clocks. He also enjoyed doing handyman work for the elderly. Survivors include his children, Kimberly Gibbs, Colona, Mark (Judith) Johnson, Gales Ferry, Conn., Kay (Curt) Rexroth, Moline, Rhonda Brooks, Bettendorf, and Bernard Tiddys, LaPorte; grandchildren, Derek (Kari) Brooks, Bre'anna (Christopher) Emmitt, Jourdan, Joshua, Micah and Jenny Johnson and Ayla and Erich Rexroth; great-grandchildren, Daniel, David and Cara Brooke Emmitt; and stepbrothers, James, Tom and Tony Johnson, all of La Porte. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Ray, Charles, Delbert and Jerry







Visitation is 12-2pm Monday at Schroder Mortuary in Colona. Funeral services are 2pm at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
