Helen Race

Helen M. Race, 95, of Silvis, died on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at her home. A memorial service will be Aug. 2. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. She was born on March 4, 1920, in Moline, to Howard and Katherine Scherer Blunt. She married Verle Hufford April 27, 1940, in Maquoketa, Iowa. She later married John Race on April 15, 1988, in Keokuk, Iowa. He died on Jan. 3, 2007. Helen worked for the Fresh Pack Candy Co. in Moline. She enjoyed playing bingo and dice. Survivors include her son, Richard Hufford, Moline; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Blunt, East Moline; sisters, Clarice Cramblit, Silvis, and Katherine Dosn, Moline. She was preceded in death by both her husbands; a son, Wayne Hufford; a grandson, Mike Hufford; and five siblings.
