James "Jim" Oltman

James “Jim” Oltman, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Hampton on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026.

He was born on February 12th, 1940 in Hampton, IL to Virgil and Henrietta Oltman. Graduating from United Township High School in 1958, Jim played for both their football and basketball teams and enjoyed supporting UT’s athletic programs throughout his life.

Jim married the love of his life, Janet See, on August 18th, 1962 at Silvis United Methodist Church. Their unwavering love and support for each other was evident in their 64 years of marriage.

Jim was proud to work for Standard Forwarding for 36 years, retiring in 2001. He was an avid Bears fan and loved traveling the world with his wife and close friends as well as campaigning for Senator Denny Jacobs. He was an active member of the Silvis United Methodist Church and was honored to serve on their board, lead their Kids 4 Christ and youth group programs, and volunteer at the Silvis Food Pantry with his wife Janet.

Above all else, Jim loved his family. He found tremendous joy and purpose in taking care of his loved ones and being someone they could count on. He was a devoted husband and father and always put his family first. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, rarely missing a sporting event, school program, milestone, or achievement of theirs. Family was at the heart of everything he did and his loved ones will forever cherish the love and care he gave to those around him.

Survivors include his wife, Janet, children Roy Oltman, Kelly (Greg) Stytz, Michele (Jody) Tague, grandchildren Jonathan (Debi) Stytz, Jacob (Jayde) Stytz, Lauren (Jacob) Velasquez, Madelene Tague, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, October 10th, 2026 at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation from 9am to 11am prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Silvis Food Pantry.
