James Overton

June 12, 1959 — August 19, 2017

James R. "Jimmy" Overton Jr., 58, of Rock Island passed away August 19, 2017 after he fought a long and hard battle with cancer at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

A celebration of life will be 4:30-8:30pm Sunday at the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island. Funeral services will 11am Monday at Olivet Baptist Church in Rock Island with visitation 2 hours prior to service time. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family. Schroder Mortuary in Silvis is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jimmy was born June 12, 1959 in Moline, IL the son of James and Evelyn Miles Overton Sr. He was the owner of Jim's Rib Haven in Rock Island. He enjoyed collecting cars, especially "old school" and attending car shows. Jimmy also enjoyed visiting casinos.

Survivors include his children James "Sam" Overton III of Omaha, NE, Justin Martell Overton of Rock Island, Nevaeh Nicole Overton of Akron, OH and Jada Nicole Overton of Rock Island; grandchildren James Overton IV, Michael Hoellen, Arecia Tucker, Deontae Morrow and Jayceon A. Overton on the way; grandmother Virgie Overton, brother Harvey ( Esther ) Overton of Columbia, MO; sister Lois " Yvette" ( Willie C. ) Thompson of Omaha, NE, and a host of many loving family members.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; brother William "Sherman" Overton and a niece Taryn.

The family would like to thank the 4th floor oncology staff at Trinity Rock Island and the staff at Clarissa C. Cook for the care given to Jimmy and his family at this time.
