James C. Stanton

James C. Stanton, 79, of Colona passed away Friday, October 9, 2026 at his home.

Funeral services will be 10am Friday, October 16, 2026 at Schroder Mortuary in Colona. Visitation will be 4-7pm Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rescued in Silvis or a humane society of your choice.

Jim was born July 31, 1947 in Ottumwa, IA the son of William L. and Roberta M. Craycraft Stanton. He married Anna Riley October 20, 2019 in Camus, WA. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. Jim retired from the Army Corps of Engineers as a welder at the age of 64. He was a member of the Green Rock Colona American Legion Post 1233. He loved baseball and was an avid Cubs fan. He loved to joke around and was always up for a good prank.

Survivors include his wife Anna; children James Stanton Jr, Brian Stanton, Brad Stanton, Lori DeFries, Jennifer Stanton, Doug Garcia, Tonya (Josh) King, his Favorite Kyle Stanton, Robert (Andrea) Riley, and Harold DeFrieze; 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his beloved dogs Baxter and Frankie.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy K. Richardson, and brother Gerald D. Stanton.
