Karen "Sue" Hoffman

Karen “Sue” Hoffman, 73, of Indianola, IA formerly of Silvis passed away December 26, 2023 at her sons home in Indianola.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis with visitation from 9:30am until service time. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline . In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

Sue was born September 30, 1950 the daughter of John and Frances Engstrom. She graduated from UTHS in 1968. She was married in 1970 to N. Edson Hoffman II.  After divorce in 1976, Karen and Edson would show their children nothing but friendship, sharing a Thanksgiving table or a fun trash-talking game of Euchre.

After Sue retired from Rock Island Arsenal, she was a parapro at Berg elementary in Newton, IA. She also volunteered at The Village Assisted Living, doing crafts with the residents, and calling bingo. Sue enjoyed crafts and card making, especially with her family and friends. Her true love was spending time with family playing games until late in the evenings. She also enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes and always looked forward to waving at the children’s hospital after the first quarter.

Survivors include her children Edson (Liz) Hoffman and Matt (Gina Petersen) Hoffman; grandchildren Alaina Wolfe, Hunter (Clarisa Rivera) Hoffman, Madison Hoffman, Taylor Kress, Megan (Devin) Mutch, Lauren (Andy Langohr) Kress, Sabrina (Jacob) Schmeichel, Bailey Hoffman, Macie Hoffman, Lydia Hoffman, and EJ Hoffman; great grandson Calvin Schmeichel; brother Eddie Engstrom and sister Kay Moreno. Sue was mom to any friend of her children, especially Paul and Jason, and grandma Sue to all her grandkid's friends, and Aunt Sue to many nieces and nephews.
