Kathleen P. Smiley, 74, of Coal Valley passed away Oct. 3, 2017 at her home. Graveside services will be 11am Tuesday at Rock Island National Cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis at 10:15am. A memorial fund has been established.
Kathleen was born March 17, 1943. She was raised by her grandmother Elizabeth McCarthy. She married J.T. Smiley Dec. 1966. He passed away in Dec. of 2000. Kathleen was foster parent and the first female EMT on the Barstow Fire Dept. and was very proud of beating her daughter Stacey by 12 hours (waiting on the mail).
Survivors include her children Mark, Stacey, Samuel and Joseph; adopted grandchildren Cody, Bryon and Kayla; many great grandchildren including Chase who was very special to her heart.
The family would like to give special thanks to Genesis Hospice for their care and support.
