Keith "Gene" Lucas

Keith “Gene” Lucas, 79, of Bettendorf passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, IL.

Visitation will be 3-5pm Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Funeral service will be private with burial to follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans.

Gene was born September 25, 1946 in Moline, IL the son of Nick and Marguerite DeGraeve Lucas. He graduated from UTHS in 1964. Gene served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He married Irene Krogmeier July 24, 1971 in Fort Madison, IA. Gene worked as a switchman for 24 years for Rock Island Lines and later at Iowa Interstate Railroad. He was a member of East Moline Eagles, East Moline Legion, and East Moline VFW. He enjoyed shooting pics, driving his corvette, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s Fan.

Survivors include his wife Irene; siblings Mel (Diane) Lucas of Golden, IL, Daniel (Cathy) Lucas of Chesterfield, Mo, and Diane (Gary) Ohrstrom of Rock Island; brother and sisters in law Linda (Steve) Bantz of Columbia, MO, Phyllis (Kent) Seymour of Liberty, IL, David (Denise) Krogmeier of Ft. Madison, IA, Joan (Roger) Moeller of West Point, IA, Ralph (Colleen) Krogmeier of Franklin, IA, Julie (John Head) Krogmeier of Frisco, TX, and Jane Krogmeier of The Villages, FL; 23 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and his fur babies Elvis “Ellie” and Buddy Holly “Holly”.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Steve Krogmeier.
