Lawrence "LJ" and Carol Gile

Lawrence “LJ” Gile, 81, of Silvis passed away February 17, 2023 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Larry is reunited with his wife Carol who passed away July 2, 2015 in Silvis, IL at the age of 85.

A Masonic service will be 11AM Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis, burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Larry was born December 2, 1941 in LaCrosse, WI the son of Earl and Geneveive (Koula) Gile. His late wife Carol was born May 19, 1930 in Augusta, IL the daughter of Roy and Etta (Bennett) Heberlien. Larry served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He owned Vince’s Furniture Stores and was a member of VFW Post 2056 in East Moline and American Legion Post 336 in Wisconsin. He was a past Master of Silvis Masonic Lodge 898, London Lodge 848, Grand Lecture Emiratis, Worshipful Grand Stewart, Grand Lodge Officer, Assistant Area Deputy Grand Master, and was a 32^nd degree Mason Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Moline. He was also president of Moline Masonic High Twelve, Past Worthy President of Silvis Aerie F.O.E 1839, Past President of the Silvis Optimist Club, and a member of Kaaba Shrine.  Carol was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2056 in East Moline, Order of Eastern Star 626 in Silvis, and the Silvis Eagles Club 1839.

Survivors include Larry’s daughter Tonya Swanson and her partner Chris Capaul of Wisconsin; his lady friend Nancy Vyncke; grandsons Travis Swanson and his partner Travis Ballie and Trevor (Nina) Swanson, their children Emree and Isla, a sister Patricia (Duane) Mach of Appleton, WI and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving Carol is her brother William Heberlien.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, sister Audrey and a brother. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
