Davenport

Mary Lee Brandon, 71, of Davenport passed away July 29, 2024 at her home.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday at Third Missionary Baptist Church in Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7pm Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mary was born April 18, 1953 in Abbeville, Mississippi to William and Everline (Ingram) Couch. She was married to Robert Glen Pegues for several years. She later married McKinley Brandon February 22, 2002, in Davenport. Mary was a strong believer in Christ. 

Mary worked as a custodian in the Davenport Community School District, retiring in 2016. She enjoyed music and singing and sang in a Gospel quartet. She was a fan of the Chicago Bears and the Davenport Central Blue Devils. She enjoyed attending sporting events including baseball, track, and football. Mary also enjoyed playing the lottery. She loved spending time with and cooking for her family. She was the biggest supporter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every person in the world was just a friend she hadn't met yet.

Survivors include her children: Edward, Angie, Erica, Latonya, and Latoya (Kenny); 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; sisters Bessie Dixon, Jenette Couch, and May Ella Campbell; brother Willie Wadley; sisters-in-law Kathy, Vera, Mavis, Darlene, and Ruthie Couch, Jackie Jones, and May, and Murlean Pegues; step siblings Eunice, Bernard (Barbara), and Avery (Bessie) Dunn, Karen (Milton) Jones, and Yvette (Johnny) Logan; Special friends Armerdale Hicks and Willa Rankin-Sanders and a goddaughter Andrea Anderson.  

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Chester Dunn; her husband; son Michael; sisters Josie Mae Bell and Bertha Sue Couch; brothers Albert Jones, Joseph, Willie Mack, Jerry, William “Pete”, Fredell, Robert, Edward “Nick”, and Brodie B. Couch, and sisters-in-law Nellie, Lila, Millie, and Betty Couch, Edna Dickens, Alice "Pat" Bell, and Corrine Pegues, and special friend Laura Randolph.

The family would like to give special thanks to St. Croix and Genesis hospice and all of her caretakers, including Jacqueline Couch, Belinda Bell, Mattie Bell, Jenette Couch, May Ella Campbell, and her many friends and family members that cared for Mary.
