Mary L. Martinez, 81, East Moline, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at her home.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis with a rosary at 3 p.m. Burial is in St. Mary's Mausoleum in East Moline Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born July 2, 1930, in Wathena, Kan., to Genaro and Maria Miranda Zaragoza. She married Mitchell Martinez Aug. 15, 1948, in Silvis. He passed away Feb 22, 1998.
She was employed at Illini Hospital for 21 years as the director of dietary. She was also the credit union treasurer.
Mary enjoyed cooking, baking and canning, entertaining her family, crocheting (especially afghans), and most of all, caring for her family. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors are children, Robert P. (Mildred) Martinez of Ada, Okla., Lawrence P. Martinez of Colona, Rosemary Martinez of Dubuque, Iowa, Valentine Martinez of Silvis, Patrick L. Martinez of East Moline, and Florentina L. Martinez of East Moline; 14 grandchildren, Gina, Tina, Dina, Tony, Marcus, Mindy, Marty, Mandy, Steve, Stacy, Marcy, Alisa, Justus and Mishel; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Jesse Zaragoza of Silvis, Eloisa Sandoval of Silvis, and Juanita Saucedo of East Moline; and special friends, Shirley Peterson, Joseph Ramirez and Sally and Josie. She was preceded by brothers, Manuel and Joe Zaragoza and sisters, Lucy Taylor and Lupe Zaragoza
