Mercedes Segura

Mercedes Segura, 97, of Silvis passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Silvis Center.

Visitation will be 10-12pm Monday, April 6, 2026 at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Funeral services will be private followed by burial in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Devine Mercy Parish Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis.

Mercedes was born August 4, 1928 in a boxcar in the Mexican Community of the Silvis rail yards. She was the daughter of Paul and Ruby Castro Gomez. Mercedes married Frank Segura November 22, 1947 in Silvis. He passed away September 11, 2020.

Mercedes was a homemaker. She loved traveling with her husband of 73 years and cooking Mexican food for her family, especially at Christmas time. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and ceramics.

Survivors include her children Shirley Johnson, Rueben Segura, Fred (Penny) Segura, Denise (Bill) Edwards, Diana (Barry) Miller; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister Rose Baeza; brother Paul (Linda) Gomez and sister-in-law Colleen Gomez.

Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Joe (Mary) Segura and Jim Gomez, sisters Suzanne (Pete) Ortiz and Virginia (Ron) Raymond, son-in-law Jerry Johnson, and brother-in-law Lyle Baeza.
