Mick D. Nelsen, 87, of East Moline passed away Monday, June 8, 2026 at New Perspectives in Silvis.
Funeral services will be 12:30pm Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Crosstown Baptist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Crosstown Baptist Church.
Mick was born April 13, 1939 in Minot, North Dakota the son of Dale and Jeanee Erickson Christenson. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He married Marie Young Derry December 9, 1985 in Milan, IL. She passed away March 28, 2024.
Mick worked for Boilermakers Union Local 60, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of Silvis Colona Masonic Lodge No. 898, Civil War Reenactors, and the US LST Association for Navy Veterans and he was honored to ignite the cannon for the Firecracker Run in East Moline.
Mick was an original member of the Cubs Left Field Bleacher Bums, a diehard Bears fan, enjoyed gardening, and was proud of his Lutheran heritage but loved being a member of Crosstown Baptist Church in Silvis.
Survivors include his children Joseph (Dori) Nelsen of San Diego, CA and Trina (Brian) Jordan of Oregon, IL and; grandchildren Mallory (Zac) Sanders, Marissa (Dan) Boebel, Nathan (Ali) Brass, Tyler Nelsen, Hannah Gruszecka, Luke Nelsen, and Danielle Nelsen; great grandchildren Riley Sanders, Genevieve Boebel, Juliette Boebel, Sage Torri, and Mila Brass; siblings Gail Graves of Davenport, Marcie Bennett of Davenport, and Terry Nelsen of Port Byron and several nieces and nephews.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Michelle Nelsen, and brothers Mark Nelsen and Doug Gradin.
