Nancy L. Svetlick

Feb 28, 1949 — Jul 30, 2026

Moline

Nancy L. Svetlick went home to her eternal life on July 30, 2026, peacefully at her home in Moline, IL. She is reunited at last; Nancy is rejoicing in heaven alongside her baby daughter Jessica, her husband Michael, her mom and dad (Samuel & Dorthy Steele), and her bestie Jean (Jeanie Beanie) Rhone, among so many other friends and family.

Born in Fairbury, Nebraska, Nancy was a force of nature, a rare combination of fierce independence, pragmatic grit, and a humorously stubborn streak who loved to defy odds. Her life motto was a simple and non-negotiable "It is what it is." She lived life in the driver's seat, kept a smile on her face while doing it, and was always ready with sharp wit and a quick laugh.

A hard worker who always took charge of her future, Nancy earned her accounting certificate from AIC Technical College of Davenport. She went on to dedicate many years of service at Trinity Hospital (UnityPoint), working as a surgical technician and later working in the X-ray department until her well-deserved retirement.

While she had little patience for bossy people, Nancy had an infinite supply of love for the things that brought joy into the world and her heart. Her garden was filled with beautiful blooms, and her love for animals was legendary; she would willingly stop traffic just to pet any dog in sight.

When she wasn't tending to her flowers or rescuing four-legged friends, Nancy was a dedicated fan of QVC and HSN. Delivery drivers across the region knew her by name, and her living room was the unofficial headquarters for home shopping excellence.

Join us at Frank’s Pizzaria in Silvis, IL on Sunday, August 16th from 12-4 pm, for a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorials in Nancy’s memory to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center (https://qcawc.org/) in Milan, Illinois, or the American Diabetes Association (https://American Diabetes Association/)

If there was one thing everyone knew about Nancy, it was that no one could tell her what to do. Ever! Per Nancy’s lifelong policy: No one is allowed to tell her what to do next. Rest peacefully, Nancy; you did it your way and will be missed greatly!

Nancy is survived by her sister Sally (Bill) Burke, nephew Billy (Kati) Burke, and niece Tiffany (Charlie) Weston. Four children: Shannon (Kelly) Vickers, Christopher (Tracy) Svetlick, Michael (Hollie) Svetlick, and Bek (Lindsey) Svetlick. Nine grandchildren: Katlyn, Paige, Cody, Rayna, Brendan, Alexis, Lillianna, Violet, and Jaiden. Also, by three great grandkids.

To send flowers or plant a memorial tree in memory, please visit our flower store.
