Raymond Terry Jr

Raymond Terry Jr., 82, of Colona, died, Oct. 9, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Schroder Mortuary, Colona. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Colona American Legion Post 1233. Interment will follow the services at Greenview Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Colona Food Pantry or the Colona Fire and Rescue.

Raymond was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Unionville, Mo., the son of Raymond and Essie May Pugh Terry. He was united in marriage to Joann R. Hanthorn Dec. 12, 1957, in Princeton, Ill.

Raymond served our country in the Navy on the USS Gilbert Islands during the Korean conflict.He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp).

Raymond spent most of his career working as a mail carrier in the Colona area. He was a member of the Colona American Legion Post 1233, Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo, the Rural Letter Carriers Association and AARP. Raymond enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and in his earlier years, hunting.

Survivors include his wife of more than 52 years, Joann; son, Daniel (Thuy) Terry, Moline; sister, Jane (George) Dillin, Bakersfield, Calif.; brothers, Doyle (Donna) Terry, Numa, Iowa; grandchild, Aaden Terry; Thuy's children, Nina, Katie and Aaron; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Lima, St. Joseph, Mo.; and brothers-in-law, Elton Hanthorn and Earl (Joanne) Hanthorn, both of Leon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
