Rita Waage

November 21, 1942 — December 26, 2017

Rita A. Waage, 75, of Colona passed away Dec. 26, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus.

A memorial service will be 5pm Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Colona with visitation 2 hours prior to service time. Memorials may be made to the family.

Rita was born November 21, 1942 in Clinton, IA the daughter of Anton and Dorothy Finch Pieczynski Oakes. She married Mark Waage in Eureka Springs, MO.

Rita's passion for nature and learning shone strong through the lens of her pastimes. Some of these included bird watching (always keeping binoculars nearby), raising a vast array of plants and garden vegetables, fishing for the fare of a current day, and teaching the youth as Nature Lady of Cole Cabin.

As such, she supported the traversion of many local species including Monarch butterflies, Bald Eagles, Canadian Geese, otters, deer, and many other migratory species. She would be best honored by the support of the Wetlands, pristine waters, and the continued support of Virgin Forests we have left to us.

She could also be found paddling the muddy waters of the Midwest, gem and mineral collecting, and even just curled up with an old book and a cup of tea. Her learnedly thoughtful pontifications and conversational nature will continue to inspire her friends and family long into the future.

Her wonderful friends Pat and Kathy Flippo were always a point of adoration and inspiration for her as well. Let us all remember them as well, as she would want them to be mentioned along with her on the annals of history... Between the Saints... Louis & Paul... in reference to the Grand Mississippi River.

Most of all was her love of family. Her Husband, children and granddaughter were her world. One quote she always adored was..."You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus." - Mark Twain

Survivors include her loving husband Mark of Colona; children Elizabeth Ann (Kenneth) Murzyn of Geneseo; George Bowles and Benjamin Bowles both of Chicago; granddaughter Emily Pobanz; a brother Richard (Trish) Pieczynski of Oklahoma; brother-in-laws Don Waage, John Waage, sister-in-laws Darlene and Coleen and their families. Several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats Bud and Mitzie.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank and an infant brother that passed away at birth.
