Wanda Lea Newton

Wanda Lea Newton, 96, of Colona passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus. 
Funeral services will be private, and burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kaylea Proehl Special Needs Trust. 
Wanda was born December 25, 1926 in Parsons Creek Township, MO the daughter of John F. and Cora Corzette Grimes. She married Donald Newton December 31, 1948 in Chillicothe, MO. He passed away April 4, 2016. Wanda started out working in a glove factory sewing gloves and with hard work and determination she retired in 1986 as supervisor of accounting at East Moline Metal. She was proud to have still lived in her own home at age 96 and was an artist and crafter. Wanda enjoyed painting, sewing, ceramic doll making, flower gardening, shopping, boating, and camping. She especially loved and cherished spending time with her family. 
Survivors include her daughter Susan McDanel; grandchildren Lance (Marnie) McDanel, Lonnie (Melissa) McDanel, and Lori (Jay) Proehl; 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. 
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son in law, Jim McDanel; and siblings Carl, Maxine, Junior, Ruth, and Ronnie.
